Claire Wordsworth, SABIC
SABIC UK Petrochemicals Limited is a subsidiary of one of the world’s leading petrochemical companies and has operated facilities on Teesside since 2006. The company is keen to be at the heart of the local community, engaging in a range of corporate and social responsibility activities.
SABIC is headquartered at the Wilton Centre, from where it provides administrative support for its manufacturing, storage and logistics facilities located at the nearby sites of Wilton International, Teesport and North Tees. Many SABIC employees worked at the Wilton International site throughout its former ownership by Huntsman and ICI, and have strong links with the area and roots firmly embedded within the region. Senior Communications Business Partner Claire Wordsworth explained: “At SABIC, we feel we are in a privileged position to be able to help others and be a force for good in the local community. Our CSR policy covers activities around health and wellbeing, education and technology, environmental protection and social and community support.”
“Plastics are a particularly hot topic at the moment, and we are keen to play our part in addressing this issue. We are founding members of both the UK Plastics Pact – which aims to transform the UK’s plastic packaging system by keeping plastics in the economy and out of the environment – and the Global End Plastic Waste Alliance, as well as being a funding partner of the Ocean Cleanup Foundation. But that’s just part of what we do. In 2018, our staff spent more than 3,500 hours volunteering for community activities and taking part in fundraising activities, and we were nominated as Champion for Business in the Gazette Community Champion Awards. On top of that, we received the Northeast of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) Community & Reputation Award 2019. We are proud of all our employees, who play their part in making a difference to the communities near where they live and work.” Claire concluded.
